首戰小熊同樣派出日籍先發今永昇太迎戰道奇山本由伸，成為大聯盟史上首次開幕戰兩邊先發都是日籍投手，總教練羅伯茲在記者會上也分析今永昇太強大之處，「他的直球極具延展性，變速球更是極為出色。如果我們對變速球能忍住不揮，才有機會擊敗他。」
